New home energy efficiency

If you are building a new home, you want that home to be warm in winter and cool in summer, but not cost the earth to achieve that.

Although the changes to the National Construction Code (NCC 2022) will save energy, costs and greenhouse gases, many builders and architects don't have the time to work out the most economical approach to meeting the standard for your home design.

Furthermore, the code makes assumptions about how you use your house, which might not match how you will use the home in practice. A blind following of the code could result in a less comfortable and more energy consuming home than anticipated.

We work with your architect or builder to ensure that your new build meets your comfort and energy efficiency requirements.

As economical, home energy efficiency, is our core business, we can ensure you get the savings and comfort level that the changes should give you.

The earlier in the process you start considering energy efficiency, the cheaper the home will be to construct, as you will be able to achieve comfort and performance with standard components, rather than neding high performance components.

Below is an example of unknowingly introducing high heat losses, that we can help you avoid.

Subtle differences can make a big impact.

In a recent project, the external doors were analysed as 40 mm thick solid doors.
However, the doors installed had the panels routed out rather than having mouldings added on top. The panels were only 18 mm thick and at the grooves only 4 mm! In this thermal image the purples and blues show high heat losses, particularly when compared to the well-insulated walls showing as bright yellow.
The doors transmitted twice the heat assumed which was significant on an otherwise efficient build.
In addition, they weren't sealed with weatherstripping, and you can see the big heat losses at the perimeter.

his type of issue on your build.
